India's Population 2011

Total Male Population in India623,700,000 (623.7 million)
Total Female Population in India586,500,000 (586.5 million)
Sex Ratio914 females per 1,000 males
Age structure

Currently, there are about 51 births in India in a minute.
India's Population in 20011.02 billion
Population of India in 1947350 million

Current Population of India - India, with 1,210,000,000 (1.21 billion) people is the second most populous country in the world, while China is on the top with over 1,350,044,605 (1.35 billion) people. The figures show that India represents almost 17.31% of the world's population, which means one out of six people on this planet live in India. Although, the crown of the world's most populous country is on China's head for decades, India is all set to take the numero uno position by 2030. With the population growth rate at 1.58%, India is predicted to have more than 1.53 billion people by the end of 2030.

More than 50% of India's current population is below the age of 25 and over 65% below the age of 35. About 72.2% of the population lives in some 638,000 villages and the rest 27.8% in about 5,480 towns and urban agglomerations. The birth rate (child births per 1,000 people per year) is 22.22 births/1,000 population (2009 est.) while death rate (deaths per 1000 individuals per year) is 6.4 deaths/1,000 population. Fertility rate is 2.72 children born/woman (NFHS-3, 2008) and Infant mortality rate is 30.15 deaths/1,000 live births (2009 estimated). India has the largest illiterate population in the world. The literacy rate of India as per 2001 Population Census is 65.38%, with male literacy rate at 75.96% and female at 54.28%. Kerala has the highest literacy rate at 90.86%, Mizoram (88.80%) is on the second position and Lakshadweep (86.66%) is on third.

India's Population in 2011Every year, India adds more people than any other nation in the world, and in fact the individual population of some of its states is equal to the total population of many countries. For example, Population of Uttar Pradesh (state in India) almost equals to the population of Brazil. It, as per 2001 Population Census of India, has 190 million people and the growth rate is 16.16%. The population of the second most populous state Maharashtra, which has a growth rate of 9.42%, is equal to that of Mexico's population. Bihar, with 8.07%, is the third most populous state in India and its population is more than Germany's. West Bengal with 7.79% growth rate, Andhra Pradesh (7.41%) and Tamil Nadu (6.07%) are at fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively. The sex ratio of India stands at 933. Kerala with 1058 females per 1000 males is the state with the highest female sex ratio. Pondicherry (1001) is second, while Chhatisgarh (990) and Tamil Nadu (986) are at third and fourth places respectively. Haryana with 861 has the lowest female sex ratio.

Some of the reasons for India's rapidly growing population are poverty, illiteracy, high fertility rate, rapid decline in death rates or mortality rates and immigration from Bangladesh and Nepal. Alarmed by its swelling population, India started taking measures to stem the growth rate quite early. In fact India by launching the National Family Planning programme in 1952 became the first country in the world to have a population policy. The family planning programme yielded some noticeable results, bringing down significantly the country's fertility rate. In 1965-2009, the contraceptive usage more than tripled and the fertility rate more than halved. The efforts did produce positive results, however, failed to achieve the ultimate goal and the population of India since getting independence from Britain in 1947 increased almost three times. Whereas India has missed almost all its targets to bring the rate of population growth under control, China's 'One Child Policy' in 1978, has brought tremendous results for the latter. The policy claims to have prevented between 250 and 300 million births from 1978 to 2000 and 400 million births from 1979 to 2010.

Census 2011: Indian population increased by 181 million

India's population rose to 1.21 billion people over the last 10 years
-- an increase by 181 million, according to the new census released
today, but significantly the growth rate is slower for the first time
in nine decades.

India is now home to a whopping 17.5 per cent population - compared to
China which hosts 19.4 per cent.

India now has as many people as these countries put together: of the
United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Japan.

India has 623.7 million males and 586.5 million women.

A matter of overwhelming concern lies in the fact that the child sex
ratio has slipped to its lowest since India's independence.

For every 1000 male infants, there are 914 girls.

On the plus side, the overall population growth rate is 17.6 in 2011,
significantly lower than 2001 when it was 21.15 per cent.

The period covered by this census -2001 to 2011 - is the first decade,
with exception of 1911-1921, where the growth rate has declined, said
Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner of India C
Chandramauli.

Also welcome is the news that the literacy rate has increased from
64.83 per cent in
2001 to 74.04 per cent in 2011.

Among the states and Union territories, Uttar Pradesh is the most
populous state with 199 million people and Lakshadweep the least
populated at 64,429.

The combined population of UP and Maharashtra is bigger than that of the US.

The highest population density is in Delhi's north-east district
(37,346 per sq km) while the lowest is in Dibang Valley in Arunachal
Pradesh (just one per sq km).

Yahoo Inc renamed it's internet search service as Search Direct

Yahoo Inc renamed it's internet search service as Search Direct

Yahoo Inc has refurbished its internet search service and renamed it as Search Direct which senses queries and showcase answers from movie listings to weather forecasts, even as users are typing in a word.

The service displays answers to queries in a pop-up box which change in real-time as a user continues typing in a search term. The company is also talking to advertisers about new kinds of graphically rich ad formats and video ads that could appear inside the Search Direct box.

IND vs PAK semifinal heat:Broadcaster ESPN Star demanding between Rs 15 to 18 lakh per 10 seconds ad

IND vs PAK semifinal heat:Broadcaster ESPN Star demanding between Rs 15

to 18 lakh per 10 seconds ad

It's a dream semi-final line up and World Cup fever has struck every nook and corner including the Prime Minister's office. And of course, broadcaster ESPN Star is seeing dollar signs, reports CNBC-TV18's Animesh Das.

Tickets for the India - Pakistan clash in Mohali are not the only thing being sold at an inflated rate. Media agencies say broadcaster ESPN Star is demanding between Rs 15 to 18 lakh per 10 seconds, that's a huge jump from the  Rs3.5 lakh for 10 seconds it charged at the league level. While some doubt whether ESS will get what it wants, others are certain advertisers will pay up.

So far, the tournament has delivered. The six India league matches did average ratings of 9.51, while non-India matches averaged close to 1.5 TRPs. Broadcast sponsor Vodafone says response to live match coverage on mobiles has been five times higher than what the IPL garnered last year. Ground sponsor LG has received 50,000 applications for its cheer-leading squad. But will these guys buy more air-time?

Anuradha Agarwal, VP - Brand Communication, Vodafone says, "We could promote things differently if India gets into the finals and ride on the sentiment that Indians will have. Afterall, more than 50 million Indians were watching the India-England match. I am sure that the number will be higher when we go along. Unlikely though that we will buy more air time."

LK Gupta, CMO, LG India says, "As an advertising platform the world cup rating for me would be, 5 or 5 and a half on 10, but as a sponsorship platform it is far more valuable to us."

The 42 league matches reached over 175 million households in the country -- that's 48 % more than the previous world cup, and 30 percent higher than IPL-3. Media planners say available inventory for the finals will be sold only after the two finalists are pencilled in. And if India is one of them, spot rates will go through the roof.

Reliance Bids For Six Oil And Gas Blocks

New Delhi: Reliance Industries on Monday bid for six oil and gas exploration blocks while Cairn India submitted offers for two out of the 34 on offer in the 9th round of auction under the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP).

Reliance bid for two deepsea blocks in the Andaman Basin in the Bay of Bengal and four onshore blocks in Rajasthan and the Cambay Basin, a source in the upstream oil regulator, the DGH, said.

Cairn India, whose success in Rajasthan may have propelled Reliance to bid for two blocks in the state, has submitted offers for only two blocks, one onland and one offshore. Cairn has not bid for any two exploration blocks on offer in Rajasthan.

Bids for the 34 oil and gas blocks, which include eight in deepwater areas, seven in shallow water and 19 onshore properties, close on Monday.

Reliance, which had not bid for any block in the previous NELP-VIII round in 2009, has shown interest in onland blocks in Rajasthan, apparently swayed by the huge oil finds by Cairn India.

The Mangala oilfield in Cairn India's prolific RJ-ON-90/1 block in the Thar desert of Rajasthan is currently producing 125,000 barrels per day and the entire area, where Cairn has made number of oil discoveries, has the potential to produce up to 300,000 bpd (15 million tonnes a year).

India had got an investment commitment of $1.1 billion in NELP-VIII and it is expecting to better that.

Industry sources said Cairn, which is known to have a knack for making discoveries in areas often abandoned by energy giants, has little interest in NELP-IX as many of the blocks on offer are old and recycled (areas where some or the other company had previously done exploration but had abandoned them as they did not find any or very little hydrocarbons).

Out of 34 blocks, 19 blocks are totally new areas, 7 in deep sea, 2 in shallow water and 10 onland blocks. The remaining 15 (1 in deep water, 5 in shallow water and 9 onland blocks) are recycled blocks.

Of the recycled blocks, five are discards of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), the largest bidder in the previous eight rounds of NELP. ONGC relinquished the areas it had won in first and second round of NELP, after it made no discovery.

In the eight rounds of NELP since 1999, 235 blocks have been awarded till date. This has resulted in enhancement of exploration coverage from 11 per cent to about 58 per cent of the Indian sedimentary basin between 2000 and 2010.

The discoveries made under NELP have resulted in in-place hydrocarbon reserves accretion of a staggering 642 million tonnes of oil and oil equivalent gas, the DGH source said.

A total of 87 oil and gas discoveries have been made in 26 blocks under NELP during this period. The discoveries have added over 640 million tonnes of oil equivalent reserves.

In the first eight rounds of NELP, a $11.1 billion investment was committed, but the actual investment so far has been $14.3 billion.

The blocks offered in NELP-IX include eight deep-sea, seven shallow water and 19 onland. The onland blocks include eight small blocks, for which the technical expertise of companies is not a criteria for submission of submit bids.

These 34 blocks cover a sedimentary area of about 88,807 square kilometres, which is 2.9 per cent of the Indian sedimentary basin area.

The onland blocks fall in Assam (2), Gujarat (11), Rajasthan (2), Madhya Pradesh (2), Tripura (1) and Uttar Pradesh (1). The seven shallow water and eight deep water blocks are off the East and West Coast, but no area in the prolific Krishna-Godavari basin is on offer.

Out of 87 oil and gas discoveries made in the NELP rounds, natural gas production in Reliance Industries eastern offshore KG-D6 block commenced from April, 2009.

The 8th round, which closed on October 12, 2009, attracted an investment commitment of $1.34 billion for 36 blocks that received offers. Under NELP-VIII, 70 areas or blocks for exploration were offered, the biggest licensing round in India.

Of the 36 areas bid for, the government had awarded 33 blocks to successful bidders.

The government has hired UK-based Fugro Data Solutions Ltd to market the blocks in NELP-IX.

India-Pakistan semi-final ICC 2011 World Cup: Amazing stats

India-Pakistan semi-final ICC 2011 World Cup

INDIA AND Pakistan, will meet in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday, March 30.
An India vs Pakistan semi-final match of the World Cup 2011 will be the fifth encounter in a Cricket World Cup between the neighbouring countries since 1992 Cricket World Cup.

However, neither team has met in the semi-final or final of any of the previous World Cup matches. India has never lost to Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup so far.
In their first meet at Sydney Cricket Ground on March 4, 1992, during the 16th match of the Benson & Hedges World Cup, India won by 43 runs. In that match Sachin Tendulkar was named man-of-the-match for his all-round performance. He scored 54 runs and got the wicket of the dangerous left-handed batsman Aamer Sohail.
Both teams met for the second time in the second quarter final match of the Wills World Cup 1996 played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. India won that match by 39 runs and reached the semi final. Indian opener Navjot Sidhu scored 96 runs and Ajay Jadeja scored quick 45 runs in 25 balls in the last overs of the inning. Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble took three wickets each. Sidhu was announced man-of-the-match.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi finalist India and Pakistan met for the third time in the Super Sixes of the ICC World Cup 1999 at Old Trafford, Manchester. On that match India defeated Pakistan India by 47 runs. In that match Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin played fifty-plus innings. Fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was declared man-of-the-match because he ensured that five Pakistani batsmen went back to the pavilion.
For the fourth time, two arch rivals India and Pakistan met at SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa during the pool 'A' match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003. With a quick fire knock by Sachin Tendulkar and a brilliant 50 by Yuvraj Singh, India won the match by six wickets. Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 98 runs, was awarded with the man-of-the-match.
In all the four previous ICC Cricket World Cup matches between India and Pakistan, the team that has won the toss, has decided to bat first. Out of the four matches, Indian captains have won the toss three times.
There are still five days to go for the India vs Pakistan ICC World Cup 2011 semi final match, but already there's an air of nervous excitement in the air. Jai Ho! India... Dhak Dhak Go...
