Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Named UN HIV/AIDS Envoy

The United Nations appointed Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
a goodwill ambassador on Monday, with a mission to help stop new HIV
infections in children and promote increased access to anti-retroviral
treatment.

Rai, who gave birth to baby girl names Aradhaya in November, will work
with the UN program on HIV/AIDS, known as UNAIDS, advocating the
"Global plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among
children and keeping their mothers alive."

"Spreading awareness on health issues, especially related to women and
children, has always been a priority for me," Rai said in a statement.
"And now, as a new mother, I can personally relate to this – the joys
and concerns of every mother and the hopes that we have for our
children."

The plan Rai will be promoting focuses on 22 countries, including
India, which account for more than 90 per cent of new HIV infections
among children. Of those, 21 are in sub-Saharan Africa, where the
estimated number of children newly infected by HIV fell by 25 percent
between 2009 and 2011, UNAIDS said.

Rai, who often features on "most beautiful" lists and is married to
actor Abhishek Bachchan, won the Miss World crown in 1994. She went on
to build a successful Bollywood career with hits such as 'Hum Dil De
Chuke Sanam' and 'Devdas'.

She has also worked in Hollywood films such as 'The Pink Panther 2'
and is a regular at the Cannes film festival.

Second Phase web counseling for EAMCET 2012 Engineering admissions is likely to be held in the last week of September 2012(Likely on 26th sept to 29th sept). The seat allotments for first phase counseling had been done on 14th September 2012. Candidates who were allotted a seat in the first counseling have to report to the colleges by 24th September 2012.

All the candidates who did not attend for certificate verification and not participated in the first phase counseling are also eligible to participate in the second phase counseling. The process for changing web options had been completed by 12th September and the seats will be allotted on 14th September 2012.

The Second phase counseling notification for EAMCET 2012 Engineering admissions may be announced on 30th September 2012. Out of the total 1,34,674 candidates attended for certificate verification, 1947 candidates did not exercise web options.

The EAMCET authorities will release second phase counseling notification after taking Category B seats allotments into consideration. Instagram's speed on Amazon EC2

Instagram can drive data to its computing systems on Amazon.com's EC2 service 20 times as fast with solid-state drives, a co-founder of the photo-sharing service said on Thursday at the GigaOm Mobilize conference in San Francisco.

Rather than access data from networked hard disk drives, Instagram's server instances on EC2 can use directly connected solid-state disks, said Mike Krieger, a co-founder of the company thatFacebook agreed to acquire in April for about $1 billion. Instagram got trial access to solid-state drives on the EC2 cloud-computing platform before that option became generally available, one of the perks of being a large customer, Krieger said.

Enterprises are starting to embrace SSDs as a faster, more compact and less power-hungry alternative to spinning disks, though the hardware still costs more per gigabyte. Web 2.0 services such as Instagram have been early adopters of the technology.

Krieger would not estimate how much data Instagram maintains, but he said users have uploaded about 5 billion images to the service.

Instagram turned to EC2 early in its life in order to deal with rapid growth. It had launched with just one rented server in Los Angeles, Krieger said.

Microsoft suggests temporary defenses to block attacks

Microsoft on Monday issued a security advisory that confirmed in-the-wild attacks are exploiting an unpatched bug in Internet Explorer. The software maker is working on a fix.

The advisory addressed the "zero-day" vulnerability -- meaning it was discovered and exploited before a patch was available -- that was found and disclosed by researcher Eric Romang over the weekend. On Monday, the Metasploit open-source penetration framework published an exploit module for the bug, putting pressure on Microsoft to act quickly.

"We have received reports of only a small number of targeted attacks and are working to develop asecurity update to address this issue," said Yunsun Wee, director of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing group, in a post to the Microsoft Security Response Center blog.

All but one supported edition of IE are affected: 2001's IE6, 2006's IE7, 2009's IE8 and last year's IE9. Together, those browsers accounted for 53 percent of all browsers used worldwide in August. The only exception was IE10, the browser bundled with the new Windows 8, which does not contain the bug.

Monday's advisory was expected, said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Security. "I think they had to get it out today," said Storms late Monday in an interview over instant messaging. "Too many people watching and waiting for something official."

Earlier Monday, Microsoft acknowledged that it was investigating reports of a vulnerability but did not promise a patch. The bug, when Microsoft gets around to patching it, will be rated "critical," the company's highest threat ranking. Exploiting the flaw allows hackers to execute code -- in other words, plant malware on a machine -- and opens Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 to drive-by attacks that only require getting victims to visit a malicious or compromised website.

Until a patch is available, Microsoft recommended that users block attacks with EMET 3.0 (Exploit Mitigation Experience Toolkit), boosting IE's security zone settings to "high," and configuring the browser to display a warning before executing scripts. EMET is a tool designed for advanced users, primarily enterprise IT professionals, that manually enables anti-exploit technologies such as ASLR (address space layout randomization) and DEP (data execution prevention) for specific applications.

But not everyone agreed that EMET was the answer.

AMD feels that Windows 8 comes with plenty of the stuff, so it sees no commercial need to make its forthcoming tablet chip -- codenamedHondo -- play nice Android as well. Speaking to The Inquirer, corporate VP Steve Belt said it was a "conscious decision" not to go after compatibility with Google's OS, because AMD doesn't want to spread itself into "other markets." What could this mean for us tablet-buyers? No dual-booting Windows / Android magic on AMD devices, for one thing, which is perhaps a shame now that ASUS has shown offthe combo's potential. On the other hand, Belt made it clear that Honda will support Linux, which -- for now, at least -- is more than can be said of Intel's rival low-power silicon, Clover Trail.

Apple Inc's new iPhone goes on sale on Friday(09-14-2012) with a bigger screen and 4G wireless technology, as the company seeks to safeguard its edge over rivals like Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Google Inc.

The iPhone 5 fulfilled many of the expectations laid out by gadget geeks and technology analysts ahead of its Wednesday unveiling but offered few surprises to give Apple shares -- already near record highs -- another major kick.

"There is not a wow factor because everything you saw today is evolutionary. I do think they did enough to satisfy," said Michael Yoshikami, chief executive of wealth management company Destination Wealth Management.

Other industry analysts speculated about what else was in Apple's product pipeline ahead of the crucial year-end holiday season, especially since the company stayed mum about an oft-rumored TV device or a smaller iPad.

Strengths -- The iPhone 5 may not look all that different from previous generations, but it still has an iconic look and (what appears to be) top-notch construction. The glass and metallic materials used give it a high-class, sophisticated look that puts many of today's smartphone designs to shame.

Weaknesses -- Apple releases one phone per year, while its competitors release hundreds. Apple takes the one-size-fits-all approach, where the competition prefers wide-ranging choice (varying screen sizes, keyboards, etc.). The iPhone 5's screen may still be too small for some. The iPhone 5 is locked down. Apple's competitors are generally open. Android's home screens, for example, offer far more customization thanks to resizable widgets and moveable app shortcuts.

Threats -- In a word, Samsung. Samsung is gunning for Apple, and it's obvious. The Galaxy S III has already replaced the iPhone 4S as the best-selling phone in the U.S. Samsung believes it will sell 30 million of them before the end of the year. The Galaxy Note II is due to arrive before the holidays, with a massive, 5.5-inch display that puts the iPhone 5's 4-incher to shame. Further, the number of features and capabilities Samsung has been putting into its devices is astounding. The Galaxy Note 2, in particular, has more camera options than some digital SLRs I've used. Sure, the end results matter more than the tools used to achieve them, but no one can scoff at Samsung's results nor its tools.

CA-CPT Exam Details

The Exam Details are -

• Objective type Question
• Exam is of 4 hours duration divided into 2 Section of 2 hours
• Each Section has 100 marks and Negative mark for wrong Answer
• To qualify in CPT, a Student has to obtain 50% mark in the Exam

The Procedure is summarized as below:-

• Pass CPT examination
• Register/Enroll for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC)
• Complete 9 months of Study Course.
• Complete 100 hours of Information Technology Training (ITT).
• Complete Orientation Course (35 hours spread over one week).
• Pass Group I or both Groups of Integrated Professional Competence Examination (IPCE).
• Register as Articled Assistant for a period of 3 years.
• Pass Group II of IPCC if not already passed.
• Appear in Final Examination during last 6 months of 3 years of articled training.
• Pass both the Groups of Final examination.
• Get Final Examination Certificate.
• Complete remaining period of articled training, if applicable
• Complete Course on General Management and Communication Skill
• Enroll as a member of ICAI and designate as "Chartered Accountant"

Google doodle on the Original Series 46th Anniversary of Star Trek

The 46th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series is honoured by an interactive Google doodle featuring characters from the iconic science fiction series.

Each of Google's letters is marked by a Star crew member with a storyline weaved into the doodle taking cues from the episode and the show. The letter 'G' in the Google logo is Spock, one if the most memorable character from the series. The first 'O' represents the character of Nyota Uhura and the second 'O' features Captain James T Kirk,
the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise. The letter 'L' resembles Hikaru Sulu.

Googlers will have to make their way throughout the doodle to uncover the story. The doodle begins in the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Clicking on the red door helps 'O' and 'E' go out to the transporter room. Clicking the main console in the room beams them to an unfriendly planet where they are challenged by an alien.
