Apple v. Samsung Preparing for Dec. 6th Hearing

Apple v. Samsung Preparing for Dec. 6th Hearing

catching up with the Apple v. Samsung post-verdict motions means going
through an appallingly long and complicated list of new filings.
This must be what it feels like to be a marriage counselor. The
parties come in, all upset with each other, fervently and loudly
enumerating in detail each others' sins up to the heavens, asking you
to say *they* are right, and you sit there not knowing what some of
what they are saying is even talking about. Even when you do, where do
you start with those two?

I have no hope of explaining all of it in one article, so I'll just
highlight three items, and I'll show you the docket with all the PDFs,
and little by little, I'll try to explain the things that matter most.

For now, suffice it to say that the parties are building up to the
December 6th hearing, and it's hot and heavy going, fighting over
every little -- and every big -- thing. The big thing is whether or
not the judge has the authority to overrule the jury's verdict. On
subsidiary issues, Apple doesn't want Samsung to be able to show [PDF]
the court production models of newly available design-around versions
of the Galaxy S II (T Mobile) (SGH-T989) and a production model of the
Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch (SPH- D710), newly produced uninfringing
products, because, Apple claims [PDF], "the record is closed." I mean.
Too closed for something that significant? Apple is asking for an
injunction, after all, and it claims the new models do still infringe,
and evidence of new noninfringing products in the hands of the court
is too late? For what? Justice?

The big issue is whether or not the judge can toss out the jury's
verdict, the damages part in particular. Apple wants some of Samsung's
exhibits excised on the basis that they're "blah blah, too late, not
relevant, blah blah", to summarize with my lip a bit curled. Very
circuitous reasoning. I'll show you that in actual detail. But they
really don't want them in the case because one of them is the judgment
dated November 9, 2012 issued by the England and Wales Court of
Appeal, ruling that Samsung didn't copy Apple's design patent. How
much logic is there to give Apple a lot of damages for a design patent
the UK court just ruled was not infringed? And there is a new ruling
in another case that Apple wants the court to take notice of, because,
I gather, they think it held that jury verdicts are to be treated
reverently, but I think they may not have read it all the way through,
as it seems to support Samsung's position in one very significant
particular,

Movie Review: Telugu Movie Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum (KVJ)

The story of Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum is set against the backdrop of
Surabhi Theatre, which is an ancient art form that is on the verge of
dying out. Director Krish has combined this art form with the
contemporary issue of mining in this action adventure movie, which has
a philosophy told in a beautiful commercial format. Everyone has
his/her own perceptions and beliefs, but not many lead a noble life.
This film teaches you to lie a great life. Krish scores full marks for
creating an interesting story and narrating it beautifully on screen.

B.Tech Babu (Rana) is the grandson of a legendary theatre actor
Subrahmanyam (Kota Srinivasa Rao), from Surabhi group. He is a typical
young man and he wants to complete his studies and leave for USA. But
his grand father forces him to perform one last drama 'Krishnam Vande
Jagadgurum' at the Bellary Natakotsavam before he moves out of the
country. This is when he bumps into reporter and documentary filmmaker
Devika (Nayantara), who makes him realise the daylight robbery and
alleged mining run by Reddappa (Milind Gunaji) and Chakravarthy
(Murali Sharma) in Bellary. How this reporter changes a selfish actor
into a selfless and courageous human being will form the crux of the
story.
Rana Daggubati has a tailor-made role in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum and
he has delivered one of his best performance in recent times. He rocks
you with his stunning fights and amazing dialogue delivery. As a
reporter, Nayantara looks good and her chemistry with Rana is very
good. Others like Posani Krishna Murali, Milind Gunaji, Murali Sharma,
LB Sriram, Brahmanandam and Raghu Babu are also good in their
respective roles. Venkatesh, Sameera Reddy will also entertain you
with their guest appearances.

Cricket News: AUS vs RSA Adelaide Match result drawn

The series was hyped as the battle for the No. 1 rank. South Africa have so far done enough to live upto their ranking. But things can change very rapidly when these two teams meet for the final time at the WACA. The 3rd Test starts on the 30th November. Let me finish with this small note, South Africa have never lost a Test match when their skipper scores a century and this was Smith's 26th Test ton.

As expected, Faf du Plessis the MoM fo his two outstanding contributions..

There will be changes from both sides at Perth. Watson should surely return for Quiney while Starc can be expected to fill in for the injured Pattinson. Will SA risk playing Tahir at the bouncy WACA? Will Kallis play the 3rd Test? A lot of questions needs to be answered.

Australia will ponder over about this draw. They had the match all but sewn up but could not find the killer touch. The pitch did stay true for the entire duration and the bowler's can't be blamed for the efforts. Lyon bowled 94 overs in the match while Siddle and Hilfenhaus sent down 54 and 64 overs respectively. The loss of Pattinson towards the end of the visitor's 1st innings hit them badly.

Relief for South Africa, they go to Perth with a 0-0 scoreline. It did not look like it when they were 45/4 mid-way through the fourth day. No praise can be enough for Faf du Plessis, he was just a replacement player for J P Duminy who got injured on the first day of the Gabba Test. Duminy said that his replacement would do a good job and du Plessis has made sure of that. 78 in the first innings and a superb rear-guard knock of 110 in the second innings. He joined AB de Villiers in the middle with the Aussie bowlers having tasted blood, soothed the nerves with a partnership that was very defensive but required at that stage. He did not lose focus even after the dismissal of Jacques Kallis as he marshalled the lower order quite superbly. A new star has been born, a pity that it took South Africa so late to realise that.

Tech News:Nano particles protect brain from nerve disease

Nano particles could prevent the immune system from attack of
multiple sclerosis (MS), a debilitating nerve disease diagnosed
between 20 and 40 years, according to a finding.

MS affects any area of the brain, optic nerve, and spinal cord,
damaging the myelin sheath, which protects the nerve cells, slowing
down or halting exchange of nerve signals. The symptoms vary from mild
limb numbness to paralysis and blindness.

"This finding (based on mice models) could potentially be used to halt
auto-immune diseases, such as Type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid
arthritis, and immune-mediated diseases, such as food allergy and
asthma," said Nicholas King, professor at the University of Sydney
Medical School, the journal Nature Biotechnology reported.

"We still have many experiments to do to confirm this but our research
is a genuine coup which promises to make an impact on a range of
illnesses," said King, who co-authored the study with Stephen Miller,
professor at Northwestern University, US, according to a Sydney
statement.

Daniel Getts from Northwestern who led the study was formerly King's
doctoral student at the University of Sydney.

All about Google Drive

Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service by Google
that was released on April 24, 2012. Google Drive is now the home of
Google Docs, a suite of productivity applications, that offer
collaborative editing on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and
more. Rumors about Google Drive began circulating as early as March
2006.

Google Drive gives all users 5 GB of cloud storage to start with. A
user can get additional storage, which is shared between Picasa and
Google Drive, from 25 GB up to 16 TB through a paid monthly
subscription plan (2.49 US$ per month for 25 GB). Originally, these
subscriptions were truly treated as "additional storage" such that a
user with a 25 GB subscription would still retain the free 5 GB for a
total of 30 GB; however, in September 2012, Google announced it was
cutting the 5 GB of free storage from all paid users' accounts, so
that a user paying for 25 GB would be restricted to precisely 25 GB

Satellite rights of Tamil Movies 2012

The scenario earlier was that producers either sold the TV rights to
the channel that was being run by the party in power. However, it was
Vijay TV, which stirred the market a bit when it bought the rights of
the then-hot Eeram for over Rs 1 crore. While this channel has been
buying films (both big and small) frequently during the past two
years, its biggest acquisition happened early this year when it got
Nanban for a whopping amount. And, now, the channel has bagged the
upcoming Vijay film Thuppakki for a record price that is rumoured to
be in nine figures.

While Sun TV looks at big productions, Kalaignar TV, which was a big
player during the last five years, seems to be targeting small films.
The latter has flicks like Paiyya, Sivaji and Manmadhan Ambu and
award-winners like Pasanga and Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai in their
library. "We always get the rights of films that have released and
done well," maintains Florent C Pereira, General Manager, of the
channel.

Meanwhile, Jaya TV, which was lying low over the past few years, has
now become an active player in this market. The channel has got the
exclusive rights for Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan, Suriya's Maattraan
and Jiiva's Neethaane En Ponvasantham, all of which are still under
production. Says V Santhanam, the channel's General Manager-Admin, "We
select movies only based on their quality. We have a team to see films
and it submits a report. We are keen on acquiring films with big
stars."

When quizzed on the cost incurred for the rights of the biggies, all
he's willing to say is, "It is the producers who fix the price. We
only negotiate and arrive at a mutually agreeable figure."

However, a few producers whom CT spoke to revealed that this rush to
bag films by Tamil TV channels has pushed up the price of satellite
rights by at least 10 per cent. Today, a small film featuring unknown
actors gets a minimum of Rs 10 lakh for its satellite rights while
star-driven films go for anywhere between Rs 5 to Rs 10 crore.

And The TV Rights Go To...

Jaya TV — Kochadaiyaan, Maattrraan, Neethaane En Ponvasantham

Vijay TV — Nanban, Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi, Thuppakki

Sun TV — Billa II, Naan Ee

Kalaignar TV — Manmadhan Ambu, Paiyya, Leelai

Zee Tamil — Vettai Mannan

Google's Doodle on 172nd birthday of Auguste Rodin

Google's latest doodle marks the 172nd birthday of Auguste Rodin, the
French sculptor whose best known works included The Thinker and The
Kiss.

Rodin, who was born in 1840 and died in 1917, is widely considered the
father of modern sculpture. The child of a working-class Parisian
family, he was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman-like
approach to his work but was also a figure who courted controversy in
his lifetime.

When The Kiss, which depicts an embrace between a naked man and a
woman, went on display in a gallery in East Sussex at the beginning of
the last century, it caused such an outcry that it was removed from
public view.

Solution for Wired Connection(eth0) not detected in Ubuntu 12.04/Ubuntu 12.10

Some of the latest Laptops especially Dell Inspiron 5420 and Lenovo
G580 series comes with Atheros Network driver which has some problem
with Ubuntu 12.04. The problem is that it will not detect the wired
network connection(eth0) even though wireless connection is working
fine. We can solve this issue by installing the proper network driver.

First you have to download the latest driver from here
http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/

Open Terminal (Alt+Ctrl+T) and extract the downloaded file using
following command.

tar -xvf compat-wireless-2012-07-03-p.tar.bz2

Copy and paste the following commands one by one to change the working
directory and install the driver

cd compat-wireless-2012-07-03-p
scripts/driver-select alx
make
make install
modeprobe alx

Done... Now you should be able to connect to the Internet using wired network.

Tech New :Opening a Terminal using a Keyboard Shortcut for Ubuntu 12.04/Ubuntu 12.10

Opening a Terminal using a Keyboard Shortcut
This is the default keyboard shortcut for Ubuntu 12.04 (and probably
previous Ubuntu releases) running the GNOME / Unity desktop, unless
you (or someone else) has changed it, it should work.

This also the default keyboard shortcut if you have changed your
desktop environment to GNOME Shell, LXDE, or the Lubuntu Desktop and
will work unless you (or someone else) has changed it.

This will NOT work for the XFCE or Xubuntu Desktop unless you (or
someone else) has added the keyboard shortcut.

1) Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open a terminal / command line / shell.

NOTE: pressing Ctrl + Alt + T means: simultaneously hold down the Ctrl
key and Alt key, then press the T key as though you intend to type it.

DO NOT press the Shift key because Ctrl + Alt + Shift + T is different
from Ctrl + Alt + T.

It does NOT matter if your Caps Lock is on or off.

Google's JAM with Chrome - play in virtual rock bands

Google is trying an experiment: it's letting armchair musicians shred virtual guitars and bang animated keyboards with a new interactive Web app called JAM, which is on its Chrome browser.
"If you ever dreamed of playing in a band, now's your chance to be a rock star," Google Creative Lab's marketing manager Emma Turpin wrote in a blog post today. "No matter what your level of talent -- from daydreaming air guitarist to music pro -- you can JAM together in real time over the web."
The way JAM works is it lets users invite friends anywhere in the world join them to play music online within the Chrome browser. The program gives users 19 different instruments to choose from, including bass guitars, drums, and keyboards.
"In the default 'easy mode' you can experiment by clicking individual strings, drum pads or keys, or you can play around with the four different autoplay functions and let the machines do the work," Turpin wrote. "Switch to "pro mode" to play any instrument using your keyboard."
Google has been upping its music profile over the past few months. It announced last month that it would soon be rolling out its scan-and-match feature for the company's music service in Europe and in the U.S. shortly after. Scan-and-match is a feature that lets users store music on computer servers of a host service. The service can then stream songs over the Internet to the user's choice of Web-connected music players.

All about Apple Ipad:Apple Ipad Mini Review

I bet the iPad Mini is going to be on a lot of wish lists this
holiday season. I also bet that for a lot of people, it's not going to
be the best choice. It's beautiful and light, but Apple made a big
compromise in the design, one that means that buyers should look
closely at the competition before deciding.

Starting at $329, the iPad Mini is the cheapest iPad. The screen is a
third smaller than the regular iPads, and it sits in an exquisitely
machined aluminum body. It weighs just 11 ounces – half as much as a
full-size iPad – making it easier to hold in one hand. It's just under
8 inches long and less than a third of an inch thick, so it fits
easily into a handbag.
The issue is the screen quality. Apple has been on the forefront of a
move toward sharper, more colorful screens. It calls them "Retina"
displays because the pixels – the little light-emitting squares that
make up the screen – are so small that they blend together almost
seamlessly in our eyes, removing the impression that we're watching a
grid of discrete elements.

The iPad Mini doesn't have a Retina screen. By the standards of last
year, it's a good screen, with the same number of pixels as the first
iPad and the iPad 2. The latest full-size iPad has four times as many
pixels, and it really shows. By comparison, the iPad Mini's screen
looks coarse. It looks dull, too, because it doesn't have the same
color-boosting technology that the full-size model has.
This is not an entirely fair comparison, as the full-size iPad starts
at $499 and weighs twice as much. The real issue is that this year,
there are other tablets that are cheaper than the iPad Mini, weigh
only slightly more and still have better screens.
Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire HD costs $199 and has about the same
overall size as the Mini. While the Kindle's screen is somewhat
smaller (leaving a bigger frame around the edges), it is also sharper,
with 30 percent more pixels than the Mini. Colors are slightly
brighter, too.
Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook HD costs $229 and has a screen that's even
sharper than the Kindle HD's. It's got 65 percent more pixels than the
iPad Mini.
Why do tablets from two companies chiefly known as book stores beat
Apple's latest for screen quality?
Sharper screens are darker, requiring a more powerful backlight to
appear bright. That, in turn, would have forced an increase in the
battery size. That's the reason the first iPad with a Retina display
was thicker and heavier than the iPad 2. So to keep the iPad Mini thin
while matching the 10-hour battery life of the bigger iPads, Apple had
to compromise on the display.
This can't last, though. By next year, it will likely be even more
obvious that Apple is seriously behind in screen quality on its small
tablet, and it will have to upgrade to a Retina display somehow. That
means this first-generation iPad Mini will look old pretty fast.
The display causes a few other problems, too. One is that when you run
iPhone apps on the Mini, it uses the coarsest version of the graphics
for that app – the version designed for iPhones up to the 2009 model,
the 3GS. You can blow the app up to fill more of the screen, but it
looks pretty ugly. The full-size iPad uses the higher-quality Retina
graphics when running iPhone apps, and it looks much better.
Some apps adapted for the iPad screen don't display that well on the
Mini screen, either, because of the smaller size. Buttons can be too
small to hit accurately, bringing to mind Steve Jobs' 2010 comments
about smaller tablets. The late Apple founder was of the vociferous
opinion that the regular iPad was the smallest size that was also
friendly to use.
In some apps, text on the Mini is too small to be comfortably read –
the section fronts in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal
apps are examples of this.
Of course, in some other respects, the iPad Mini outdoes the Fire and
the Nook, so it isn't just the tablet for the buyer who needs the
prettiest and the thinnest. In particular, the Mini is a $329 entry
ticket to the wonderful world of iPad and iPhone apps. For quality and
quantity, it beats all the other app stores. (Oddly, there's an
inverse relationship between screen quality and app availability in
this category – the Nook HD has the best screen and the fewest apps,
while the second-best Kindle Fire HD has middling access to apps.)
The Mini also has front- and back-facing cameras, for taking still
photos and video and for videoconferencing. The Kindle Fire HD only
has a front-facing camera for videoconferencing. The Nook HD doesn't
have a camera at all.
In short, the iPad Mini is more versatile than the competition, and
I'm sure it will please a lot of people. But take a look at the
competition first, and figure that by next year, we'll see something
from Apple that looks a lot better.

US election 2012: Barack Obama's re-election celebrated around world

From his old school in Indonesia to a Japanese beach town that happens
to share his name, people around the world cheered President Barack
Obama's re-election on Wednesday.

The results of Tuesday's election were closely watched in many
countries. Several U.S. embassies held mock elections and threw
parties as returns came in.

At Jakarta's Menteng 01 Elementary School, which Obama once attended,
students happily marched with a poster of the president from one
classroom to another after hearing that he had defeated Republican
Mitt Romney to win a second term. "Obama wins ... Obama wins again,"
they shouted.

US election results,US New President: Mitt Romney holds early electoral vote advantage

President Barack Obama won the reliably Democratic Northeast, and Republican Mitt Romney secured his conservative base Tuesday night in a duel for the White House shadowed by a weak economy and high unemployment.

The critical battlegrounds with the key to victory were unsettled, Virginia, Ohio and Florida among them, with long lines in many locations after poll-close time.

Romney led in the popular vote, gaining 8.2 million votes, or 52 percent, to 7.5 million or 47 per cent for Obama, with 5 per cent of the precincts tallied.

Romney also held an early electoral vote advantage, 67-64, with 270 needed for victory.

The polls were still open in m uch of the country as the two rivals began claiming the spoils of a brawl of an election in a year in which the struggling economy put a crimp in the middle class dreams of millions.

Obama carried Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and Romney's home state of Massachusetts. Also, as expected, he won Delaware and Maryland as well as the District of Columbia and Illinois.

Romney had Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Kentucky and West Virginia in his column. He also won Indiana, a state Obama carried in 2008 but did not contest this year.
