Forestry in an expanding economy and forest governance and institutional reforms are some of the issues which would be discussed during the country's first-ever forest Congress to be held in Delhi on November 22.

The four-day conference with a central theme of 'Forests in a changing world' will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for environment and forests Jyanti Natrajan, an ICFRE spokesman said.

Topics covering various aspects of forestry like forestry in an expanding economy, jungles in society and urban landscape, forests and land use policy, forest governance and institutional reforms will be discussed in the meet.

Being organised by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, the conference is the first-ever forest Congress in the country and it will be attended by scientists, NGOs, farmers, personnels from forest-based industries and forest officials from across the country, the spokesman said.

The conference assumes significance in the backdrop of UN General Assembly declaring 2011 as International Year of Forests.
