10th Class English Paper 2 - Model Paper for Telugu Medium Candidates

Following is the SSC English Model Paper for Telugu Medium Candidates. Paper 2 along with Part A and Part B are given here for the benefit of the SSC / 10th Class candidates. Duration of the exam is 2-30 hours and Maximum Marks to be awarded are 50.

(1-10) Answer any FIVE of the following questions. Each answer must be in one or two sentences. 5 × 1 = 5

But here he was asking for the ring that was given to him by Portia. So he said, ''This ring, sir? It's not a valuable one. I cannot give you such a worthless thing as the ring". 13. A place of worship in your locality plays film songs on the loud speaker the whole night. They do not care for the people's protest. Students and old people suffer a lot. Write a letter to the Editor of a newspaper about this nuisance asking the authorities concerned to take necessary steps. (OR)

Write a letter to your young brother advising him to read newspapers. Tell him why newspapers are important, how they bring not only news but also opinions on social, economic and political subjects also. 10 Marks

14. Read the following passage carefully.

Ruth, who lives in Huddersfield, has never been to school. Her father, Harry Lawrence, a computer consultant, gave up his job when Ruth was five to educate her at home. Her mother, Sylvia, who also works in computers, is the family breadwinner. 
Harry Lawrence explained that, besides mathematics, Ruth also enjoyed English, History, Geography, Nature study and other subjects. She began to read at four and started academic subjects at five. "We did not start off with the thought that she would not go to school", he said. ''But we enjoyed teaching her so much and we seemed to be making quite a good job of it, so we just carried on. 15. Read the following passage carefully.

Some people were eating and drinking in a coffee house. A young woman was sitting alone at a table. She was wearing a beautiful diamond necklace. There was a tall, thin man at a table not far from her. He was looking at her necklace all the time. Suddenly, the lights went out. The coffee house was in darkness. The woman started to shout. She was afraid. A few minutes later the lights came on again. The woman was a tears. She had lost her necklace!
The owner of the coffee house quickly shut all the doors. He telephoned the police. No one could get out of the coffee house. The police soon came. The police inspector told his men to search every where. They could not find the necklace. The police inspector looked at the faces of all the people in the coffee house. He saw the tall, thin man and looked at him carefully. He went upto the man picked up the bowl of soup that was on his table. He then poured the soup into a glass. The necklace fell out. The police caught the man and took him away. The young woman was happy to get her necklace back.

16. Read the following passage carefully.

The Egyptians were the inventors of paper. They made paper from the papyrus plant which grew in great clumps in the marshes of all along the river Nile. The papyrus plant was a tall reed which was used by the Egyptians for all sorts of purposes. They made into such things as sails, ropes, thatch and cloth, and even cooked and ate part of the stem. This plant grew out of the water to a height of about fifteen feet and had a tufted growth at the top which looked rather like a shaving brush. The stem at the thickest part was about the size of a man's wrist.
To make the papyrus into paper, the stem of the plant was first cut into pieces about a foot long. The outside skin was then peeled off and the pith cut into thin but wide slices. The slices were placed close together side by side, but not overlapping, on a slightly sloping table. The slices were flattened out by beating them gently all over with a smooth wooden mallet. A second layer of slices was then laid across the top of the others so that the strips were at right angles to those of the first layer. The hammering was then repeated until all the lumps had been removed and the sheet made quite flat. The fresh, sticky sap of the papyrus acted as a paste holding the slices firmly together. The papyrus sheet was then pressed for some time and allowed to dry in the sun. The sheet was then smoothed and polished to make the surface ready for writing upon. This was done by rubbing the surface all over very carefully with a piece of ivory or shell. The edges were still rough and these were next trimmed to produce straight-sided sheets.

This papyrus was much softer than our modern paper and soaked up ink very easily much more like our blotting paper. It was of a yellowish brown colour which was very restful to the eyes in the bright Egyptian sunshine. It had, however, the draw back of being brittle and liable to crack and split unless it was handled carefully. The warm climate of Egypt suited it well, but it soon perished when used in other countries where it was wetter than in Egypt.
