The first hat-trick of the ongoing IPL 5 season
Ajit Chandila rose to prominence after securing a hat-trick for Rajasthan Royals against Pune Warriors in their Indian Premier League match in Jaipur. His feat became the first of the ongoing season. The Haryana spinner was signed by the Royals in the auction for the 2012 season and had otherwise been having an ordinary season till the match at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium. Coming in to bowl with a cushion of 170 to defend against a side already out of contention for the play-offs, the 28-year-old claimed Jesse Ryder off the fifth delivery of the chase. He followed it up with the wicket of skipper Sourav Ganguly and returned in the next over to remove Robin Uthappa to unleash massive celebrations on and off the field. Chandila's main plus point however, has been his ability to restrict the flow of runs. In the Delhi Daredevils team in the previous editions of IPL, the right-handed off-spinner however only made his debut in the tournament with the Royals. His first match was against Royal Challengers Bangalore in which he finished wicket-less, being taken for 29 on the same ground. Chandila made his first-class debut in 2010, playing for Haryana against Himachal Pradesh at Dharamsala. He has three wickets from two first-class matches.
