current Honor: NTPC Kawas bags top honor in Energy Conservation

NTPC Kawas received the first prize in the Thermal Power Stations
Sector category in the National Energy Conservation award-2012. The
Award was received by Shankar Das, AGM I/C from President of India
Pranab Mukherjee at a function held in Vigyan Bhawan. Jyotiraditya
Scindia, Union Minister of State for Power ( Independent charge) and
P. Uma Shankar, Secretary Power were also present on the occasion.

NTPC, Kawas is one of the prestigious the state of the art gas based
combined cycle power plants initially developed along the HBJ
Pipeline. The project is located near Kawas village of Surat district
in Gujarat and commissioned in 1993. The plant having total generation
capacity of 645 MW is capable of running on mixed fuel [both Natural
gas and or Naphtha].

Power from the station is supplied to the states of Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu .

NTPC Kawas has state of the art SIMULATOR CENTRE for hands on training
of operating personnel to work in a gas / liquid fuel based power
station

The station has adopted several measures for energy conservation like
Installation of Sides Stream Filtration Plant, thereby reducing the
water consumption from 2000 cum / hr to less than 1000 cum / hr. Mixed
fuel facility incorporated to improving the loading factor of the
station, when sufficient gas is not available resulted in saving in
fuel due to increase in efficiency. Reduction in power consumption at
the Station by replacement of standard motors with energy efficient
ones.
